Common Foot Problems

Normal Foot

The normal human foot is a strong and complex mechanical structure containing 26 bones (+2 sesamoid bones), 33 joints and more than a hundred muscles, tendons,

and ligament. It has two longitudinal arches and a transverse arch.

Flat Foot

A flat foot is a postural deformity in which the arches of the foot collapse, with the entire sole of the foot coming into complete or near-complete contact with the ground. This can cause discomfort, leg, hip and back problems.

Bunions

A bunion is a deformity of the joint connection the big toe to the foot. Symptoms of bunions include irritated skin

around the bunion, pain when walking, joint redness, pain and possible shift of the big toe toward the other toes.

Over Pronation

The arch collapse upon weight-bearing. This motion can cause extreme stress or inflammation on the plantar fascia, potentially causing severe discomfort and leading to other foot problems and posture problems.

Plantar Fasciitis

The most common cause of pain on the bottom of the heel. it occurs when a band of tissue that supports the arch of the foot becomes irritated and inflamed causing

heel pain and stiffness of the foot.

Heel Spur

With constant stress of the foot calcium deposits build up on the bottom of the heel bone forming a spur. This causes extreme pain and people find it difficult to walk.

Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles’ tendonitis is a common condition that occurs when the large tendon that runs down the back of the lower leg becomes irritated and inflamed. Commonly seen in younger adults & active people.

High Arch

The foot is distinctly hollow when bearing weight. Multiple problems such as shoe-fitting problems, lateral ankle instability, lower limb stress fractures, knee pain, back pain and tripping can be caused.

Metartasalgia

A painful foot condition affecting the balls of the feet, often as a result of repeated injury. The pain felt at one or more of the metatarsal bones and may be present in

one foot or both. It is felt more acutely when the person walks, runs, or places their weight on the affected foot.

Morton's Neuroma

Thickening of nerve tissue that may develop between the base of the third and fourth toes. people with certain foot deformities like bunions, hammertoes, flat feet or more

flexible feet are at higher risk for developing a neuroma.

Charcot Foot

Is a condition causing weakening of the bones in the foot that can occur in people who have neuropathy. The bones are weakened enough to fracture, and with

continued walking, the foot eventually changes shape.
